Toolbar Palette◊
  Shortcuts to commands

The Toolbar Palette contains commands in the form of buttons as a shortcut
to some of the more common operations you'll want to perform on tones,
chords, and scales.

Click on a button or use a key equivalent to enact the command.

  ◊   Triad
   Add three notes to the chord beginning with the Scale Note.
   The notes are added in 3rds.  FretPet plays the triad as an arpeggio.
   [ Example:  The D triad in the C scale is a Dm chord with the tones D - F - A. ]
   • <SHIFT>-click clears the chord before adding the triad.
   • <OPTION>-click key subtracts the triad from the chord.

 ◊    Scale
   Add the entire Current Scale to the chord.  FretPet will play a linear
   progression of all  the notes in the resulting chord, beginning with the root
   of the Current Key.
   • <SHIFT>-click clears the chord before adding the scale.
   • <OPTION>-click subtracts the scale from the chord.

  ◊   Transpose  <T>
   Transpose the Current Chord to a new root that you click on.

   If the Current Chord isn't empty, clicking the Transpose button will turn the
   pointer into an arrow with a key alongside it.

   You can then click a tone in the Scale Palette, Guitar Palette, or
   Circle Palette to change the root of the Current Chord to a new note.  All
   the other notes will retain their positions relative to the new root.

   Note that you can hold down the mouse button (in most places) to
   continuously transpose the chord to new keys.  Useful when you want to
   try various transpositions without repeatedly clicking the Transpose
   button.

   [ Example:  If the Current Chord is Em then clicking a position that corresponds
                     to the C note in the Guitar Palette will transpose the chord to Cm. ]

  ◊   Clear
   Clear the Current Chord.

  ◊   Undo
   Click to Undo the last operation.

  ◊   Add Chord  <A>
   Insert the Current Chord into the Chord Bank.  If no bank is open then one
   will be created for you.  Note that once you have a bank open this button
   merely duplicates the Current Chord.

   • <OPTION>-click gives the new chord an empty sequence.
   • <SHIFT>-click puts the duplicated chord at the end of the sequence.
   • <◊  >-click or <D> puts the duplicated chord at the end of the sequence and
      advances the Bank Cursor.

The following items can also be selected from the Sequencer menu.


   ◊  Stop  <esc>
    Click here to stop any sequences that are playing.

◊     Hear
   Click Hear to listen to the Current Chord.  This button acts differently
   depending on the status of the Current Chord.  There are 3 possibilities:

   • Full Chord - Every note is struck simultaneously.
       This will occur whenever the Chord Bracket is turned OFF.
       See the Guitar Palette for more info.

   • Strummed Chord - Strummed from the bottom string to the top.
       This occurs ONLY when you have no open banks or the current bank is
       empty - and the Chord Bracket is ON.

       • To force a Strummed Chord to play when your chord has a sequence, hold
          down <OPTION> while clicking this button.

   • Sequenced Chord - Played according to your design.
       If you have created a sequence for the Current Chord you can listen to it
       with the Hear button.  The sequence keeps playing until you click the Stop
       Button or click Hear again.  You can click Hear while playing a range of
       chords to linger on the Current Chord.

◊     Play
   Play the Chord Bank from start to end.

   • <OPTION>-click plays from the Current Chord on.
   • You can also use equivalents in the Sequencer menu.

◊     Loop  <L>
   When this button is turned on your sequences will repeat indefinitely until
   you press Stop or until you turn looping off and the sequence reaches its
   end.

◊     Active View (Eye Button)  <E>
   To have FretPet automatically move through the document as your sequence
   plays, click this button.  While in the Active Viewing mode you will not be
   able to perform any actions within the document window.
